The Story

I built my career inside some of the most demanding environments in business — Fortune 50-backed telecom, private equity carve-outs, multinational retail, e-commerce scale-ups, and government contractors. I spent more than two decades sitting at the intersection of finance and operations, where most businesses either find their next gear or get stuck.

In those roles I learned that the same problems show up at every size of company: financial reports that nobody trusts, operations and sales pulling in opposite directions, "tribal knowledge" living in one or two heads, systems patched together with workarounds, and leaders who can't take a real vacation because the business doesn't run without them.

I also learned that these problems are fixable — but only when somebody is willing to look at the full picture. Not just the books. Not just the operations. The full picture, end to end, and the connections between every department.

I started SMS Consulting because there is a class of business — small and mid-sized companies in the $2M to $15M range — that has outgrown its infrastructure but cannot justify a full-time COO or Controller at $250,000 a year. Those owners deserve real executive expertise. Not a coach. Not a generalist. Not a checklist consultant. Someone who has actually done the work, in the trenches, at scale.
